Abstract
Computer-BasedTest (CBT) is the use
ofcomputers to administer tests in universities for students. The perceptions
of students and lecturers on CBT in Nigerian universities as regards its
benefits and challenges has not been established, only and veryfew studies have
focused on determining students' perceptions of CBT. Thus, there is the need to
investigate the students and lecturers perception towards CBTin assessment
ofstudents. Two research questions were posed for the study, as two
correspondingnullhypotheseswere testedat 0.05 level ofsignificance. The study
adopted the survey research design. Thepopulation of the studywas 83
respondents which comprised21 lecturers and62 studentsfrom200 level ofthe
Department ofAgricultural Education in the second semester of the 20J9/2020
academic session in Micheal OkparaUniversity ofAgriculture. A total enumeration
made up the sample. A 15-item Questionnaire (SLPTCBTQ) was developedfor data
collection. The stability ofthe instrumentwas 0.83 and internal consistencywas
0.76. The research questions were answered using mean while the null hypotheses
were testedusingthe t-test. FindingsrevealedthatCBT has benefited the students
asstudents results are now releasedonpromptandstudents'scores nowprotected.
Findings also revealed significant improvement in the academicperformances
ofstudents, aspowerfailure, inadequate computer infrastructure are perceived
challenges of CBT in assessment. The study recommended amongst others, that
University of Agriculture should adopt the CBTfor all levels of agricultural
education programme and provide alternatesolution to interruptedpowersupply.
