Abstract
The study determined the
analytical.effects of demonstration and problem solving teaching methods on
students’ academic achievement in sciences. The study adopted expost Facto
research design through meta-analytical procedure. A sample of 31 independent
research reports of 35 cases from primary studies on effect of demonstration
and problem solving teaching methods on students’ academic achievement in
sciences from 2000 -2019 were collected using a coding instrument which was
designed for this study. The reliability of the instrument was 0.78 by using
Inter-rater agreement reliability. Percentage, statistical transformation and
effect sizes were used to analyze the data for the research questions, while
Winer combined test was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level
ofsignificant. The finding indicates that the mean magnitude ofthe effect of demonstration
teaching method on students' academic achievement in five science subjects was
high, positive and significant. Also the mean magnitude ofthe effect
ofproblem-solving teaching method on students' academic achievement in five
science subject was high positive and significant. Therefore the two teaching
methods develop students’ active learning and affective sharing with others,
develop critical thinking as well and abilities to solve real life
situationalproblems.
