ABSTRACT
Record keeping is schools by
headmasters, principals and their staff is one of the most crucial aspects of
school management and administration. In fact the need for the keeping of
adequate and accurate records of all that go on within the school system for
effective administration and management of schools can not be over-emphasized.
A record according to Ajayi (1995) is kept to supply authentic evidence of a
fact or event. In other words, it is information on facts or events preserved
and handed down. He noted that record keeping is therefore the art of keeping
such information or fact in such a way or manner that it can be retrieved when
ever need for administrative purposes arises. Igwe (1990) emphasized that
proper record keeping of all related records is very important as they readily
form data bank from which any information can easily be extracted at a short
notice
