ABSTRACT

Agriculture constitute the life wire of every nation and lack of it can render a will conceived and establish economy useless. In Nigeria the finance of agriculture which has been problem over the years has been blamed on the banking sector of the economy. Prior to the establishment of banks, Nigerian farmers perform their agricultural practice on subsistence level. The reasons given is that credit facilities were not given to them by banks as such that resulted to under production because the farmers were financially incapacitated as to undertake scale production in Nigeria? However, efforts towards giving agriculture a different look in the economy, successive government through their agencies have been putting in place different policies and programs aimed at ensuring optimal production and subsequently providing these package to farmers at the lowest possible cost. Furthermore, it is within the cycle that government in her annual monetary and fiscal policies guide-line mandate banks to give loan and advances to the sector. However, this work made an analytic over view of the performance of money deposit banks in financing agriculture in Nigeria, the research design adopted in carrying out this study is a quasi-experience design or survey method. The study made use of primary and secondary source of data. This project work contains five chapter, chapter one deals with the introduction, in the second chapter was on literature review, while the third chapter treated the research method, chapter four is the analysis, interpretation and presentation of data/testing of hypothesis whereas the last chapter contained the summary, conclusion and recommendation.
