Effect of Electronic Banking on the Profitability of Commercial Bank:- Okechukwu Felix I
ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of electronic banking on the profitability of commercial banks in Nigeria using time scries data from 2002 to 2016. The study used proxies for electronic banking ■ such as Automated teller machine ( A I'M). Point of sale (POS). electronic mobile banking (EMB) and ntcrnel banking transactions (IB I ) to-examine its effect on the profitability of commercial banks in Nigeria, through an ordinary least square (OLS) multiple regression method. The result showed that POS and IBT positively affected profitability of commercial banks, while EMB affected commercial banks’ profitability negatively. However, only ATM transactions was found to have affected commercial banks profitability significantly. Recommendations were made among which are that banks should provide a sufficient standby generators that could be used in case of electricity failure, provide adequate ICT infrastructure and management framework, and enlighten the public on the importance of using electronic banking products.
