ABSTRACT This research project is aimed at evaluating the effect of butanol extract of Vernonia amygdalina on selected organ weight of female albino rats administered with high fat diet. A total of 15 white female wistar rats weighing 285-308 gmbwt of 57-60 day old were used in this study. White albino rats were obtained from the college of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. All the experimental rats were acclimatized for 2 weeks in their separate cages with three (3) rats each divided into five groups (Fl, F2, F3, F4 and F5). An increasing dose rates of the aqueous extract of Vernonia amygdalina viz., 100 (low dose), 200 (high dose) mg/kg b.w and Orlistat + water were administered orally daily for 20 days to groups F2, F3, F4 and F5, respectively. Control group Fl was given normal saline for the same period. The rats were sacrificed on day 21 and organ weights were measured using Metier balance. The result of the organ changes showed that there was a significant (p<0.05) difference within the treatment groups compared to the control. The result obtained from this showed that the extract at concentration of 200 mg/kg significantly reduced the organ weight of female albino rats (p<0.05) except for the gonadal fat were the extract concentration of 200 mg/kg significantly increased the weight ' of the gonadal fat
