ABSTRACT
By way of
definition, the library can be called a repository place which collects bibliographical
materials and organizes them in a meaningful way and eventually makes them available
for use to a community of users. In an academic environment, a library is a
storehouse of information and the seat of knowledge. This storehouse of
knowledge is usually properly organized and the information disseminated in an
organized manner. Since the inception of the library movement, librarians who
are professionals in carrying out this job have been interested in co-operative
librarianship and fascinated with the co-operative aspects of their profession.
Early sharing of resources in libraries took a variety of forms (professional
education and short term training, short term advisory service to further
effective planning and managing, borrowing and lending librarians to handle
operating responsibilities, contributions of books and even demonstration of
modern library methods). In the recent information and communication technology
environment, it has become practically impossible for any library to remain
self reliant. In a situation of growing demands of library users and depleting
levels of financial resources, no library is able to obtain all it resources on
demand; hence the idea of cooperation/networking is still ideal. So libraries
have to share resources in order to maximize accessibility, cut cost, provide
better services, and also unite in the creation of new library objectives and
not just to systematize old ones.
