ABSTRACT

This study was designed to examine the resource use efficiency in cassava processing into garri in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. Data for the study were collected lii rough the use of a well-structured questionnaire and personal interview of' eighty (80) garri producers. Data analysis consisted of the use of simple descriptive statistical tools like percentages and frequency tables and multiple regression analysis by the ordinary least squares technique. the result of the data analysis shows that the mean age of cassava processors  garri was 36. Also the bulk of the cassava processors arc married and the ileum household size was 8. About 88.75 percent of the cassava processors had one torn of triennial education or the other ranging Ilion primary to tertiary ethical the majority of them had I -2.9 hectares as the size of cassava holding. the result revealed that males participate actively in cassava processing into garri inure than females. The main source of land as revealed by the rest for the cassava processors was through inheritance. About 4875% of' the garri producers were civil servants. Some of the constraints militating against garri production were transportation problem, high cost of labour, inadequate credit facilities, marketing problems, high cost of inputs and inadequate processing machines.
