Mimosa invisa Mart, a
semi-perennial leguminous weed is a threat to forest ecosystems, agricultural
lands and pastures. Research to reduce the problems caused by this weed is a
priority in many agricultural institutions. The above-ground weed floral and
seedbank of Minvisa infested fields in fifteen Local Government Areas (
L.G.A.s) of Edo State was assessed in 2012 .The aboveground weed flora was
assessed in randomly thrown I m x I m quadrats iii each field which the direct
seed germination technique in the greenhouse was used to assess the seedbank
density and floral composition . Orihonmwom had the highest above-ground
relative weed density(74.4%) while Akoko Edo L.G.A had the largest weed
seedbank size which was positivly associated with increasing soil organic
carbon and nitrogen content. Species diversity was highest in Esan North L.G.A
in above — ground floral while Igueben L.G.A was highest in weed species
diversity in the seedbank. M. invisa density tended to be higher in fields with
moderate phosphrous, organic carbon, nitrogen, and calcium in the soil. Seed
population of other species associated with M invisce was found to he highest
in Ovia Southeast L.G.A . C. rolundus, P. ainarus, M. villous, P. pedicellalum
were found to be next threat when M. invisa was controlled.
