Preservation And Conservation Of Information Resources In Topfaith International Secondary School, Mkpatak. Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State
ABSTRACT
The study investigated the preservation
methods and use of information resources in Topfaith international secondary
school, Mkpatak. Essien Udim Local Govemmeny area of Akwa ibom
state.particulaly,it examined the factors that cause deterioration of
information resources, problems militating against effective preservation and
conservation of information material and ways and means of achieving effective
handling of library materials. The study adopted survey design. Sample size of
one hundred librarians, library assistants as well as library officers
constitutes the population of the study. The instruments for data collection
were questionnaires, interviews and observation. It was found that: (i) the use
of air conditioner and good ventilation in Topfaith secondary school library
reduce the extent of library material deterioration, (ii) good methods of
preservation and adequate security reduce rate of material theft and
ventilation, (iii) nature of buildings, facilities as well as service rendered
in Topfaith international secondary school detennines the library materials
deterioration. It also include summary of the study, implication of finding. It
concluded the methods of preservation in Topfaith international secondary
school depends on the effectiveness of preservation and that material should be
stored in digital form for long preservation. Recommended among other that:
librarians and library assistants need to adopt the digital methods of
preservation to enable library materials stay a longer time in meeting
information needs of the users.
