ABSTRACT

Tie-dye has been used in making clothing but sparsely used in irterIbr decoration while manual printing is a craft that has faded away since the coming of Science and Technology. This study was aimed at ascertaining the potentials of tie-dye and manual printing products for use in the design of household items such as pillow cases, bed sheets, window blinds, quilted bedcover for Interior Decoration. A Laboratory experiments was conducted in tie-dye designs and printing process using a natural mortify (Rose flower) on a 100% cotton materials. The designed product was used in sewing household products such as pillow cases, bed sheets, window blinds, and quilted-bedcover. This study was evaluated using fifteen panelists randomly selected among staff and students of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. The data collected were analysed using table, percentages, means, the analysis of variance that is the ANOVA table. Results from the data revealed that the developed household items from the tiedye and manual printing products were highly acceptable for use in Interior decoration of bedrooms. Based on the findings of this study it was recommended that local crafts which aim at developing Indigenous technology should be encouraged. This will create opportunities for income earning, youth employment, foreign exchange earning as well as poverty alleviation among the disadvantaged in the society.
