ABSTRACT

This research is aimed at enhancing the perception ofstudents in home economics program through recycling and recreation ofwaste materialfor wealth among home economicsstudents of Michael Okpara University ofAgriculture, Umudike. During the course ofthis work, six objectives and research questions wereformulated. Thus, survey research design was adopted ofwhich data were sourcedprimarily through questionnaire. Questionnaire were issued to 55 ofwhich 40 was completelyfilled and returned by the available year 1 and year 2 Home Economics students of MOUAU. The data collectedwere analyzed using descriptive statistics where mean and standard deviation were usedfor decision making. About ten waste materials that could be recycled were identified. Secondly, that there is an enhancement ofthe enrollment andperception ofstudents in the study ofhome economics through recycling and recreating materialsfor wealth creation and sustainability in the Study area. This is revealed by the grand mean of3.37 which is above the bench mark of2.50 for decision taking. Thirdly, that there is an students in the study ofhome economics through recycling and recreating materialsfor wealth creation and sustainability in the Study areas. Fourthly, that there are materials that could be recreated in the Study areas. This is revealed by the grand mean of3.31 which is above the bench mark of2.50for decision taking. Fifthly, that there are recreatedproducts be used to generate wealth and sustainability in the Study areas. This is revealed by the grand mean of3.30 which is above the bench mark of 2.50 for decision taking. Finally, that there is an acceptability ofrecycling andrecreating materialsforwealth creation and sustainability in the Study areas. This is revealed by the grand mean of3.62 which is above the bench mark of2.50for decision taking. Hence, it was confirmed that there is an acceptability ofrecycling and recreating materials for wealth creation and sustainability in the Study areas. Based on the findings and conclusion, it recommended that educational institute should empower the students especially thefresher with the perquisite skills to be effective and efficient in cycling and recreating materials, that the Ministries ofEducation and environment create workshops and seminars where the masses will be enlightened and equipped with the skills ofcycling and recreating materials, that the Home Economics lecturers should endeavour to improve the practical learning with her so as to enlighten them on the importance ofcycling and recreating materials skills such as been another source ofincome for livelihood, that parents should not be left out in the drive to provide and support and skills ofcycling and recreating materials inculcating the importance ofcycling and reci eating matei ials in the education oftheir children and wards, hence, building moral, material andfinancial supportfor their use in Home. The government should make funds available and sponsor Home Economics lecturers’attendance at conferences, seminars and workshops on cycling and recreating materialsfor effective instructional deliver
