ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the effect of participative leadership on team effectiveness of Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The specific objectives ofthe study are sought to: investigate the effect ofcollective participation on team cohesiveness in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ascertain the effect ofrepresentative participation on goal attainment in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and investigate the effect ofconsultative participation on interpersonal relationship in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information from the target respondents who were management of Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. A cross section survey which formed a quasi-experimental design was adoptedfor the study. A total of 68 management staff constitutes the population ofthe study. Taro Yamane’sformula was employed to derive the sample size of 55. Four hypotheses was formulated to guide the study. The findings revealed that Collective participation has significantpositive effect on team cohesiveness in Zenith Bank Pic and First BankNigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Representative participation has significant positive effect on goal attainment in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Pic in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Consultative participation has no significant effect on interpersonal relationship in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Short-term participation has no significant effect on teaming skills in Zenith Bank Pic and First Bank Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made by the researcher: Operation managers of commercial banks should employ collective participation in their respective workplaces to achieve higher effectiveness, Top level managers ofcommercial banks should employ representative participation to avoid service disruption in the banking halls, Policymakers such as Central Bank should mandate Managing Directors of commercial banks to adopt collective participation for higher productivity and Representative participation should be adopted by both service and manufacturing organisations since it has proven to resolve conflicts amongst employees and enhance their effectiveness.
