ABSTRACT

 The broad objective of the study was to evaluate the participation of women in adult education programmes in Ohafia Agricultural Zones of Abia State. Specifcally the study identified the socio-economic characteristics of women in Ohafia Agricultural Zone. Determination of the level of awareness of women in adult education programme, determined the enrollment and participation of women in adult education programme identified factors that influence participation of women in adult education programme and made recommendations base on the findings of the study. Purposive and simple random sampling were employed and the instrument used was the questionnaire while the sample size was 144. Result from the study show that 22.9% of the respondents had no formal education, 38.2% had primary education, 30.6% had secondary school education while 8.3% where tertiary institution dropouts. A vast majority of the respondents were aware of the adult education programme, while 76% of them enrolled in the programme. However, only 25.7% of the women participated actively. Three of the variables namely income, cooperative/social organization, occupation were found to significantly important on women participation in adult education. While, age, family position, household size, marital status were not significant in determining the extent of women's participation in adult education
