ABSTRACT
Social media use among
adolescents has gone so high since recent time. Adolescents at this present
time have more access to online information than adolescents ofthe older times.
Most ofthem have many modem devices which provide to them access to internet or
online business (Lenhart, 2011). Such devices are smart phones, laptops, i-Pads
and other video games. O’Keefe and Clark-Pearson (2011) stated that adolescents
of these days have made social media part of their lives. The authors further
stated that social media may include social networking site such as Face book,
Instagram, YouTube, Photo and Video Sharing sites, Tumblr, Instant Messaging,
Chartrooms, Discussion forums, Email, Twitter, Linkedln, Snapchat, etc.
(Subrahmanyam and Greenfield, 2008). Manning (2014) opined that social media is
the term often used to refer to new forms of media that involve interaction
participation. The author further stated that the development ofit is divided
into two different ages, the broadcast age and interactive age. In broadcast,
media were exclusively centralized where one entity such as radio or television
station, newspaper company, or a movie production studio-distributed messages
to people. Feed-back to media outlets was often indirect, delayed and
impersonal. With the rise of digital and mobile technologies, interaction on a
large scale became easier for individuals than before, and as a new media age
was bom where interactively was placed at the center of new media functions
(Manning, 2014). Lenhart (2011) opined that adolescents create online profiles
and personalize their pages on which they post and add photos, videos, quotes
and other materials.
