ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the information needs and utilization of library resources by Library and information Science Students, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. ihe target population was Libraiy and information Science Students, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike who was eight hundred and eighty four (884) in number as at the time of survey. Stratfied random sampling was used to select a sample size of 176. Questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. A total of 170(96.6%) of the 176 questionnaires administered were returned. Descriptive statistics consisting offrequency tables, percentages, means and standard deviations were used to analyze data collected for the study using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences ('SPSS) version 20. The findings of the study reveals that the major information needs of the students was on education/research (3.85 mean score). The students preferred library print resources (textbooks: 3.59 mean score) to electronic resources. Reference and referral services (3.62 mean score) was the major service that satisfied the information needs of the students. Lack of library orientation and user education, inadequate current library resources, inadequate ICT' internet resources and services, library opening and closing hours, and nature of library rules and regulations were major challenge faced by the respondents. The study affirmed that provision of ICT'internet resources and services was ident/Ied as the major way to solve the identfied problems of the respondents. Based on this finding of this study, several recommendations were made including proper funding of ICT'in (cruet resources and services, employment of ICT librarians, and creation of iCTinternet management policy.
