ABSTRACT

This study investigated the influence of the presence of non-academic students on the administration of South East Universities in Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Five research questions were posed for the study and five null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was 7550 which comprised 3210 staff and 4,340 students of the 2017/2018 academic session. The sample of the study was 755 which comprised 321 staff and 434 students from 5 federal universities located in each of the five south eastern states. The instrument for data collection was the Influence Of  The Presence of Non-Academic Students on The Administration of South East Universities Questionnaire” (IPNSASEUQ). The instrument was faced-validated by three experts. The instrument was tested for reliability using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient with a value of 0.79 for the total administered on 434 for students and 321 for staff. The data were analyzed using the  mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and t-test statistics to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that the unauthorized use of university facilities by non-academic students affect university administration affects university administration to a high extent, all items on the misuse of documents by non- academic students affects the university administration to a high extent and all items on the possession of illegal weapons by the non-academic students affect universities administration to a high extent.  It was recommended that universities the Government and school administrators should ensure that the students use university facilities in the right way and ensure that they utilize them effectively. They should also ensure that students who are not supposed to make use of school facilities strictly do not use since it adds extra cost to university.
