Improving The Profitability Of A Corporate Organization Through Effective Cost Control, A Case Study Of Champion Breweries Plc Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Of Nigeria:- Ukpong, Emmanuel D
ABSTRACT
The
subject of cost control has of recent assumed a global significance having been
found to be crucial for sustainable profitability. Hence the topic:- Improving
the profitability of a corporate organization through effective cost control. A
case study of Champion Breweries Pic, Uyo. The objective of the study was to
identify the factors that constitute cost of operation, to examine how the
factors can affect the earnings of the business and to examine the relationship
between profitability and cost of operation. The research design used was on
longitudinal, Ex-post Facto Design. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation
Co-efficient method of data analysis ands the Chi-square method of data
analysis was used in testing Hypothesis one and two respectively. The variables
used in testing hypothesis one were operating expenses ratio and return on
investment ratio obtained from the Annual Report and Account of Champion
Breweries Pic Uyo. This was to determine whether cost of operation affects or
does not affects the profitability in manufacturing organization. Hypothesis
two was to determine whether profitability and cost of operation has or does
not have any significant relationship on cost control of the organization.
Findings revealed that high cost of operation affects the profitability ofthe
organization and that profitability and cost of operation have significant
relationship on cost control of the organization. Based on the findings, it was
recommended that the management should focus on means of controlling expenses
by identifying the key experiences in each business line or department, the
company should use other techniques like cost reduction, proper budgeting and
budgetary control measures must be maintained.
