ABSTRACT

 The study examined the effect of corporate tax on economic growth ofAfrican nations. The specific objectives of the study are; to ascertain the effect of company income tax on the gross domestic product of selected African countries, to determine the effect of company income tax on per capita income ofselected African countries and to ascertain the effect of company income tax on inflation rate of selected African countries. To achieve the objectives of the study ex-post facto research design was adopted. The source of data is secondary data which were generated from Statistical bulletin and Federal Inland Revenue sendees bulletin of the selected countries. Data collected were analyzed using panel data regression analysis. The findings revealed that (i) company income tax has insignificant effect on gross domestic product ofselected Africa countries, (ii) company income tax has insignificant effect on per capita income of selected Africa countries and (iii) company income tax has insignificant effect on inflation rate of selected Africa countries. Based on the findings, the study recommends that the regulatory authorities charged with the sole responsibility of collecting tax should further be strengthened to enforce compliance by taxpayers in order to increase the gross domestic product of Nigeria. Also, corporate tax revenues should be properly distributed so that economic growth can be harnessed, especially in the area of increasing per capital income of citizens in Nigeria. This can be achieved by providing basic social amenities as well as infrastructures in Nigeria.
