ABSTRACT

The stock exchange is a specialized market for the buying and selling of securities. These securities include stock and shares which represent ownership interests in business, debentures and Government bonds. This study examined the impact of the Nigerian Stock Exciange has created on the growth of the Nigerian economy. The hypotheses wis tested using the regression analysis with annual time series coveru' the period 2002 to 2011. To achieve the objections, this study revi'wed stock exchange, its functions, activities, membership and problems. 1'Ie researcher adopted both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Nigerian Stock Exchange is poised to relieve these foreign portfolio nvestors, where they materialize. It should be noted that the operation f the Nigerian Stock Exchange, depends largely on the freedom permitted the exchange in dealings with pricing of securities, maintenance of strict disciplines with regard to its professional standards and many other purposeful innovations. It is recommended that the government should encourage the supply of investment funds by significantly relucing rate of persona! taxation thus, granting incentive for creation of wealth. Also government should favourably control interest rate so as to aid tle growth of the stock market.
