ABSTRACT

To effectively retrieve and use e-information resources by undergraduates, it requires mastering of ICT skills since it is electronically stored and must be utilized electronically. This study is on JCT skills and the use of electronic information resources by undergraduates in IMSU, MOUA U and UN/PORT libraries. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population of the study is 288 Library and Information Science students. Taro Yamene statistical formula was used to determine the sample size of 167 respondents. LIS Undergraduates Rating Scale (LURS) arranged in three clusters was used for data collection. Cronbach Alpha was employed to ensure the reliability of the instrument which yielded coefficient of 0.70, 0. 72 and 0.88 for each of the clusters. Descriptive statistics involving frequency counts and mean scores were used for data analyses. Findings show that: the undergraduates possessed some level of JCT skills; the extent of use of theeresources is high and the barriers to the use of e-resources include students' perceived difficulty and requirement of some kind of expatriate for the use of EIRs sources, insufficient infrastructure, need for subscription and slow internet connectivity etc. The researchers recommended among others that, undergraduates must understand the place of EIRs in their academic activities and performance and also JCT educators or librarians should demystify the perceived difficulty to the use of EIRs through orientations and workshops.
