Evaluation Of The Relevance Of Accounting Practice In Non-Profit Making Organizations In Nigeria (A Study Of All Saints Anglican Cathedral, Aba):- Elijah Victoria N
ABSTRACT
The
basis of this research project is to evaluate the relevance of accounting
practice in non-profit making organizations in Nigeria. The specific objectives
are: (i) to examine how the financial activities of nonprofit organizations are
being handled by qualified and experienced accountants (ii) to know how
effective and efficient accounting practice on non-profit making organizations
could help to ascertain proper accounting records. A review of related
literature was extensively made on chapter two of the work to cover relevant
aspects of the topic. Chapter three is the research methodology and how the
researcher intended to carry out the study and the questionnaire. The number of
population as obtained from norminal roll showed a total of 670 members. 250
sample size were used. Chapter four of the study centers on the analysis and
discussion of data derived from respondents on the questionnaires which were
meant to disclose facts about the subject matter. Two of the findings made from
the study are stated thus: (i) Sound accounting practice has a significant
effect on the growth of the non-profit making organizations; (ii) Lack of
qualified accounting personnel in non-profit organisation has a significant
effect on the financial reporting. Finally, based on the findings, I
recommended these problems should be handled with good care. In addition, two
of the recommendations advanced for the purpose of improving accounting
practice of non-profit making organizations are: (i) Qualified and experienced
accountants should be engaged to manage the financial departments of this
organizations, (ii) Non-profit organizations should institute sound accounting
practice for the purpose of improving accounting practice of non-profit making
organizations.
