ABSTRACT

Curing is the process of minimizing tire rate of moisture loss from concrete during cement hydration. In order to get good quality concrete, an adequate mix must be followed by curing in a suitable environment during the early stages of hardening. Curing must be undertaken for a reasonable period of time if concrete is to attain its maximum strength and durability. The compressive strength of cured concrete cubes at 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 curing days using water immersion, sprinkling, saturated wet covering, chemical compound covering and plastic sheet curing methods was investigated in this research. The average compressive strengths at 28111 day of curing for the water immersion, sprinkling, saturated wet covering, chemical compound covering and plastic sheet curing methods were 34.82, 24.87, 33.33, 25.04, 30.67 N/mm2 and as compared to non-cured concrete samples of 10.81 N/mm2. Water immersion method of curing showed the best method followed by saturated wet covering method. Hence, curing is verv important in concrete to cement hydration process to be completed and achieve the desired strength
