ABSTRACT
The study examines
the effect of wage administration system on employees’ job satisfaction in the
manufacturing industry. One major problem that necessitated this study is poor
wages and salary. The specific objective of the study is to determine the effect
of work hazard on job satisfaction in the selected manufacturing organization
and to ascertain effect of work experience on employee retention in the
selected manufacturing organizations. The study adopted the survey research design
and questionnaire was used as data gathering instrument. Primary and
secondary data were extensively used. Primary data were generated by the use of
a structured questionnaire. The
population comprised of 503 employees of the selected manufacturing industries
in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The Taro Yamane (1967) formula was used to get
a sample size of 202. The 5 point Likert scale was used in the construction of
the questionnaire distributed to the respondents. The statistical tool
employed in testing the hypotheses were the ordinary least square (OLS)
involving the simple regression analysis using SPSS version 20. From the
statistical analysis of the hypotheses, it was discovered that work hazards has
a positive significant effect on job satisfaction in the selected
organizations. The study also revealed that work experience has a positive
significant effect on employee’s retention in the selected organization. The researcher concluded that since wage
administration is an aspect of industrial relations, it should be one area of
interaction between workers and government or employees and management. The
researcher therefore, recommended that management should always pay attention
to the salary of their employees in relation to their exposure to work hazards,
work experience and academic qualification so that their take-home pay can
provide at least their basic needs during crisis on the job.
