Effect Of Vermicom Posting with Cow Manure On Soil Physicochemical Properties And Vegetable Yield
ABSTRACT
A greenhouse experiment was conducted at Micheal Okpara
University of Agriculture Umudike, to study the effect of vermicomposting using
cowrnanure on soil physical and chemical properties and yield of amaranthus.
The experiment was a 3 x3 x 2 factorial in completely randomized design for
analysis of selected crop yield parameter. Thc treatments were a combination of
earthworm and cowmanure (EWC), cowmanuie alone (CM) and a control applied to
two soils of different textures. Plant data were taken at 4, and 6 weeks after
planting. The effect of vermicompost on selected physiociemical PloPerties of
the soil was analysed using a 3 x 6 x2 factorial in a CRD, where factor A
represent the treatment (F3WC, CM and control), factor B represent sampling
time (2,4,6,8,lO,and l2wceks) and factor C represent the soil type (Clay-loam,
and sand). The treatments were replicated three times. The parameters studied
were bulk density. porosity, aggregate stability, pH. organic carbon, available
phosphorus, exchangeable acidity and yield of amaranthus. Results indicate that
