ABSTRACT

This research was carried out to study the effect ofirrigation frequency on growth parameters, crop coefficient and yield of Okra using manure in Tropical zone. This study covers responses of Okra to the application of irrigation with and without manure. There are three responses to this study; we have the control Wi, organic manure system W2 and W3 inorganic manure study. This was done in order to determine crop coefficient, growth parameters ofthe crop. The buckets were observed under a green house condition in order to obtain climatological records for which the evapotranspiration model was determined. Equal treatment ofOrganic and inorganic fertilizer were applied in the ratio of 3:1 while the average responses to plant height observed for the first treatment which is the control were 12, 10.5, 14cm, second treatment were 14, 12, 16cm and third treatment were 13, 11.25, 15cm. The irrigation water requirements for the six months recorded are 3.596,2.079,1.908, 0.857, 0.658 and 0.376 respectively. These values were highest in the month ofApril and minimal in the month of September as a result ofthe demand of water intake at the initial stage of planting but became saturated as leaves began to sprout out. The yield to irrigation frequency revealed that the essence ofwater to plant growth is very significant.
