Effect of Firms Financial Statement Analysis On Investment Decision in Nigeria: A Study of Nigeria Breweries Plc:- Elijah, Ogechi F
ABSTRACT
The
study determined the effect offirm’sfinancialstatement analysis on investment
decision ofin Nigeria, the specific objectives are to evaluate the effect
ofleverage on return on asset, to ascertain the effect ofearnings per share on
return on asset and to determine the effect ofliquidity on return on asset, the
study adopted expost facto research design and extracted datafrom time series
ofNigeria Breweries over aperiod of10years. Leverage, earningspershare and
liquiditywere usedasproxies forfinancial statement analysis while return on
asset was adopted as proxy for investment decision. Based on the nature ofdata
extracted, ex postfacto research design was adopted through the use ofmultiple
regression analysis to investigate the relationship ofthe variables. It
wasfound that there is a positive relationship between leverage, earnings per
share and liquidity on return on asset. The study therefore concludes
Shareholders show less interest in companies ’ Earnings per Share while making
their investment decisions in the Nigerian Stock market and recommends that
Potentialshareholders shouldmakeproper investigation about the financial state
ofthe company oftheir interest before making investment decisions, Companies
should avoid miss-stating their financial statements, as such actions have
negatively affect the confidence ofthe shareholders onfinancial statements.
