ABSTRACT

This study reflects at how the prospect of Microcredit is a drive to poverty alleviation. Poverty at the individual, household and community levels diminishes the capacity and capability to attain and live a life of well-being. Its persistence presence is a threat to national stability, society have come to accept this fact and have been taking measures to address it. This study was carried out in Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Areas of Rivers State. This study adopted a survey research design and investigated on the problems of microcredit towards poverty alleviation, one hundred and twenty households responded to the questionnaire based on the microcredit as drive to poverty alleviation. A few percentages were us d to answer the research questions that guided the study. Also the research hypothesis have no significant relationship between microcredit and poverty level thereby having a weak impact on both microcredit and poverty alleviation. Based on the findings, it was recommended that financial institution, government and non-governmental organizations should effectively implement funding microcredit facilities towards poverty alleviation.
