The integrity
and security of electoral systems have been longstanding concerns due to
vulnerabilities such as ballot tampering, vote manipulation, and a lack of
transparency. These issues erode public trust in democratic institutions and
highlight the urgent need for more secure, transparent, and efficient voting
mechanisms. This project presents a blockchain-based voting system designed to
address these critical challenges by harnessing the decentralized, immutable,
and transparent attributes of blockchain technology. The proposed system
ensures that votes are securely recorded on a distributed ledger, making them
immutable once cast, thereby eliminating the risks associated with vote
tampering or alteration. Smart contracts are integrated to automate key
processes, such as vote validation and counting, reducing human error and
enhancing the overall efficiency and accuracy of the election. Voter anonymity
is preserved using advanced cryptographic techniques, ensuring that
individuals' identities are protected, while the transparency of the blockchain
allows for public auditing of election results without compromising voter
privacy. Preliminary tests of the system have demonstrated its effectiveness
in improving security, transparency, and scalability, making it suitable for
both small-scale and national elections. The immutable nature of the blockchain
ensures a verifiable audit trail of every vote, thereby reinforcing the
credibility of the electoral process. Moreover, the system is capable of
scaling to accommodate a large number of voters without compromising
performance, offering a viable alternative to traditional voting methods. The system
is implemented using TypeScript and Solidity, with smart contracts handling key
election processes on a blockchain platform. Continuous user feedback and
iterative development will enable further refinements, ensuring that the system
becomes an even more robust and reliable tool for secure and trustworthy
elections.
