ABSTRACT
In Nigeria, power generation is not up to 5,000MW
while the entire population is estimated to be 180million. This means that only
30% of the population may have access to the electricity supply. After
privatization of power sector in Nigeria, the private operators now prefer to
give electricity supply to company and those places they can optimised their
business goal while the majority ofNigerian populace would be starred of
electricity supply. Nigeria is also blessed with a lot ofminerals and natural
resources like petroleum gas, wind, hydro, biomass and sun light. Hydro and
solar energy in particular, ifproperly harnessed will reduce demand in
electricity supply from the national grid. The solar energy which has developed
in modular units can be used to mitigate insufficient electricity supply in
rural areas where electricity supply is far reached. The design and
construction of 2.0kVA solar powered inverter of24V DC (input supply to the
inverter) and 220V AC output (for domestic loads) if properly developed, will
reduce loss of income due to poor electricity supply in Nigeria.
