Corporate Tax Planning And Financial Performance Of Listed Deposit Money Banks In Nigeria:- Onusulu, Jennifer O
ABSTRACT
This study examined corporate tax
planning and financial performance of Listed Deposit Money Banks specifically
Systemically Important Banks (SIBs) in Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design
was adopted. The data covered period from 2008 to 2021. Panel Multiple Ordinary Least Square Regression was adopted after the
data was subjected to Cross Section Dependency Tests, unit root test (all stationary
at levels) and Hausman Test .The study found
that capital intensity have a significant influence on return on asset with a
probability value of 0.0346, and also effective tax rate and capital intensity
have a significant influence on Net Interest Margin with probability values of
0.0369 and 0.0346 respectively, other tax planning strategies (thin
capitalization, advertisement expenditure) does not significantly affects return
on asset and net interest margin individually but does collectively. It was recommended among others that systematically
important banks in Nigeria should make tax planning as part of the firm’s
strategic financial planning, employ the service of expertise in tax practices
and also to effectively utilize all tax planning strategies available in order
to further influence financial performance positively.
