ABSTRACT

Computer museums often hold historic mainframe super computers as well as abacuses and other historic computing devices. Such displays and collections which include information about inventors and their inventions help visitors to understand today's computer technology in a broader historical context. Young people lack knowledge and understanding of how far computing hardwares have evolved. They do not understand how computing was done when it all started. There are very few computer science museums in existence and even fewer of these museums exists online. This project focuses on solving these problems by developing a web application for computing hardwares display and exhibition. The computing hardware museum is a web-based application intended to be accessible from the internet. This allows the application to be available to PC users who can access the internet from their devices with a web browser. The computing hardware museum web applications system was developed using open source web technologies notably HTML, CSS, PHP, JSON, JQUERY, AJAX and MySQL. The museum web application produced in this research work has functions that will enable users to be able to explore computing hardwares by providing pictures, text and video resources. The developed application was tested using the XAMP application suite and the test results show that the application works as expected.
