Clay Distribution Along A Toposequence With Depth In Amaoba- Ime, Ikwuano LGA Abia State
ABSTRACT
A study was carried out to examine the physico-cheinical properties and clay distribution of soil along a toposequence with depth in Amoaba —Ime, Ikwuano 'L.G.A of Abia State. Five physiographic positions :Crest(A), Upper slope(B), Middle slopé(C),Lower slope(D), Valley bottom (E) afong the toposequence with an average distance of l5Oni apart were used. Soil samples for analysis were collected from four depths 0-1 5cm, 1 5-30cm, 30- 45cm, 45-60cm respectively using core samplers and soil auger. Results showed that the soils textural classes ranged from loamy sand, sandy loam to sandy clay loam. The p1-I ranged from acidic (4.68) to shghtly acidic (5.71). Soil properties such as Aggregate stability, Bulk density, Ksal, %Organic caboji, %Organic matter, varied along the toposequence and with depth. As percent clay distribution and soil depth significantly affect clay distribution. Aggregate stability (AS) determined by mean weight diameter (MWD) of aggregate along topolevel and soil depth significantly affect clay along the toposequence studied at p<.O.Ol .00 correlated significantly with '%clay distribution and AS(MWD)of aggregates at P<.0.0I.
