Challenges Of Cooperative Financing Of Farmers In Abia State, Nigeria (A Study Of Nigeria Agricultural And Rural Development Bank)
ABSTRACT
This study assed the challenges of cooperative financing of
farmers in Abia State. The specific objective are to identify the
socio-econornic characteristic of the cooperatives, determine the extent
cooperatives have affected cooperators in financing invesinient and identify
(lie challenges nictitating against effectiveness of cooperative financing. A
random sample of 120 cooperatives were randomly selected while the data was
collected using a well structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, likert
scale and simple regression analysis are the tools used to achieve the
objectives of the study. The result of thç regression analysis, with the
R2value of 0.624 and the F-statistic value of 2.73. The finance gotten from
cooperative societies has a positive significant effect of the farming
investment of the farmers. The major challenges affecting the, cooperative
financing include low commodity price, unstable government policies and
increasing cost of production. It was therefore recommend that farmers should be
encourage to form cooperative societies as a source of financing and addressing
challenges such as low commodity price and increasing cost.
