Automation Of Passenger Manifest And Ticketing System (A Case Study Of Abia Line Transport Company Aba)
ABSTRACT
The diversity and complexity of the
different types of passenger transportation in operation today invokes the need
to an efficient transport service management system. Existing transportation
models tends towards proffering solution for finding the least cost combination
for delivering cargoes from various deposits to known remote customers
destination. This research looks at the possibility of adopting or modifying
the existing model for use in management of passenger transport service. A
preliminary investigation using the Nigerian private transport sector
management practices situation show that inability to apply scientific based
approach to vehicle capacity assignment and passenger volume protection stands
in the ways of profit maximization for most indigenous transport companies.
Software was designed to capture passengers' information using Visual Basic 6.0
version as programming language environment and Microsoft access as the
database platform. The new system developed was able to exploit the computer's
high speed data processing capabilities, thus resulting to increased accuracy
and efficiency with low cost of operation and productivity
