Assessment Of Students Interest In The Study Of Chemistry Secondary Schools In Umuahia South L.G.A
ABSTRACT
This study was designed
Io find out the interest of secondary school students inchemistry within
Umuahia South Local Government Abia State. This study identifies the factors
that influence the interest of the students in· chemistry. Data for the study
were obtained by administering questionnaire items on Assessment of students'
interest in chemistry in Umuahia south L.G.A, Abia Stnte" lo I 00
respo11<le11ts from six different schools, 50 students from SSI and 50
students from SSH. The data obtained were analysed using a simple mean score
apµ1oach. The queslio1111aire was given to experts iu measurement and eval!mtion
who made corrections and input was used for the final production. The findi11gs
in the study revealed that interest is an important fact in the study of
chemistry. Teaching methods, peer groups, and environment goes a long way to
influence the interest of students in chemistry. In recommendation, teachers should
device new te.aching methods to make chemistry more interesting. Parents, peer
groups and school counsellor should always encourage students who want to study
chemistry.
