ABSTRACT
In this era of ever-growing
competition, it has been realized by manufacturers in industrialized Countries
that to be competitive in the international and local market ,the quality and
reliability of the products produced need fo be improved. That the
establishment of an industry should not be only emphasized on profit making but
also specify quality standards of its products. Thus , highly artisans have
striven to make it products distinctive through superior quality. Obviously
,the use of quality control has been in existence, but what is new about it is
the use of statistical techniques which are helpful in maintaining and
improving quality standards, hence termed as statistical quality control.
Statistical quality control involves the statistical analysis of the inspection
of data, which is based on sampling. The actual inspection system to be used
depending on the nature of the possible faults that can occur, like in the 1
application of the principles involved in normal curve for determining the
extent to which quality control foods have been met and for indicating whether
r not the variation which may occur are exceeding normal expectation. These
techniques were developed by W.A. Shewhart (1924).The problem he solved was that
of checking on the consistency of manufacturer of a very large number of
components. Also problem of keeping a production process at a specified
stable level. And in consequence this has received widespread application in
industries. In conclusion statistical quality control is simply a statistical
method of determining the extent to which quality goals are being met without
necessarily checking every items produced and for indicating whether or not the
variation which occur are exceeding normal expectations.
