Application Of Regression Analysis Of Students’ Jamb Scores, Age And Sex On Their Cgpa (A Case Study Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike):- Nwogu Victor N
ABSTRACT
This research looked at the linear relationship
that exist between JAMB Scores, Age, Sex and CGPA. The statistical tool used
was regression analysis and JAMB Scores, Age and Sex were independent variables
while CGPA was the dependent variable. Further, the sample comprised of 100
students randomly selected from one departments in each of give colleges in
MOUAU. F test was used to test the overall significant of the models, t-test
was used to test the significance of test statistic and Kleins test was used to
test the effect of multicollineanity. The result indicated that there was no strong
linear relationship between JAMB Scores, Age, Sex and CGPA; in other words,
CGPA do not depend significantly on JAMB Scores, Age and Sex. Correlation
Analysis test shows that, there is a very weak correlation between CGPA and
JAMB Scores. Therefore, it was recommended that; the research department of
MOUAU should check other factors which influence students’ performance and also
release data to researchers when needed to help solve the problem -of poor
performance. Finally, I gave a recommendation that management of MOUAU should
consider other alternatives like aptitude test for admitting students since
from the finding, JAMB is not a reliable selective measure for admission. This
may be because of examination malpractice
