ABSTRACT

As individuals in a highly competitive society, we are repeatedly judged in the course of our daily lives. These assessments are in the form of first impressions, and the impact of these first impression can change the destiny of our lives . They can mean the difference between success and failure, not only in our interpersonal relationships but also in our educational pursuits and professional careers. A first impression is always a collects impression if there is no second impression. First impressions are a vital form of communication in an urbanized society. During This initial contact many cues are received, categorized, and acted upon. Bickman had observed: Your clothes do more than protect you from weather. They give other people cues to your social status, your occupation, and your destination'. The way your clothing fits your body is an important factor to consider in selecting clothing. It determines whether an appearance of quality and attractiveness is achieved by the apparel. Even the most carefully constructed garment made of the finest fabric cannot give the appearance of quality if it fits poorly. Improperly fit garments can never appear attractive or give one a feeling of physical comfort and self-confidence. Some garments are designed to be somewhat loose on the body; others are intended to fit more snugly. The amount of ease desired is always a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer ample ease , whereas others feel more comfortable in closely fitted gannents. Fit invariably has been the problem between tailors and their customers over their sewn clothes. Tailors in order to achieve this ultimate goal of fit take measurements before sewing clothes. These measurements together contribute to the general outlook of the clothes. Yet amidst all these, variations still exist. However, it must be remembered that people come in a variety of shapes, sizes and proportions . These characteristics determine the kinds of clothes that look and fit well. There is no perfect figure or body type, body shapes determines the size and style of clothes one can wear. By measuring the circumference of, or distance around the waist, hips and the chest can a good idea of someone's shape. Height also is another important factor; two people who have the same height may have entirely different proportions. Some people have long arms and legs; others have short aims and legs. Some are short-waisted, while others are long- waisted. These characteristics make a big difference in the kinds of styles that fit and flatter each individual. Since each outfit you wear creates a visual image that says something about you, this is why people are conscious over their sewn clothes and is a challenge to tailors, that must be addressed accordingly.
