Analysis Of Use Of Child Labour In Rural Farm Households In Abia State, Nigeria
ABSTRACT
Child labour has become a growing
phenomena in developing countries including Abia state, using cross sectional
data derived from a random sample of rural children from farm household. Probit
regression and correlation models were used in data analysis. Results indicates
that age of the child, years of education of the child, either son or daughter
of the household head, value of the contribution of the child, sex of the child
were statistically significant determinants of child labour in farm households.
It was concluded that if the economic condition of the farm household were not
improved significantly to the extent of lifting them out of the grip of low
educational level and income, Child labour use in farm activity would continue
to persist irrespective of international and national schemes towards its
resolution, regulation and legislation to curb the menace of child labour.
Based on the findings of this research, it was recommended that the child's
educational level should be enhanced through increasing the income of the
household.
