ABSTRACT

This research project carried on the analysis of influence of socio-economic factors on spending pattern of final year students in the College of Physical and Applied Science (COLPAS) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike. Abia State.To achieve the objectives of this work three hundred and twenty questionnaires were distributed to the final year students of above college to obtain the necessary information on students age. sex. parents' income, parents educational status, religion and amount spent by each students on weekly basis. Multiple recession analysis and independent z-test of difference between two means were used to analyze the data obtained in the questionnaire. Based on the analysis the result shows that the spending pattern of female and male students were not the same, and also . spending pattern of students whose parents are educated were not the same with those whose parents w'ere not educated, spending pattern of student whose parents receives income were not the same with those whose parents do not receives income, and no difference between spending pattern of students from orthodox and Pentecostal churches. Multiple regression model indicates that age and religion proves insignificant in the analysis. It was found that spending pattern of students in COLPAS depends on their income (i.e as their income increase, their spending pattern also increases for all spending categories.
