Adoption Of Improved Cassava Production Technologies By Small Scale Farmers In Ahiazu Mbaise L.G.A Of Imo State
ABSTRACT
The aim of the inclusion of improved
tcchn3logy in agricultural system, particularly crop production is to increase
the quantity of food that will meet the need of growing population. This study
was conducted at Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State and it
specifically deals with improved cassava production technologies for small scale
farmers. A total number of' 64 respondents were chosen for this study, they were
split into 16 circles, each containing 4 farmers. Descriptive statistics and
regression techniques were used to analyze the data collected. The result
showed that 53.1% of the respondents adopted improved cassava production
technologies and it positively affected their income. The technologies that
were adopted by the cassava farmers came as a result of contact with the
extension officers attached to the Agricultural Development Project (12i), in
Ahiazu ,Mbaisc L.G.A. Imo State. The variables that have positive impact of the decisions to adopt improved cassàva technologies include; educational
level, age of' farmers, and amount of loan were the variables that affected the
rate of adoption positively in the study area. Generally, the rate of adoption
of improved cassava production technologies was higher and it was recommended
that farmers should be educated the more on the importance of these
technologies to meet the challenge of food insecurity in the nation.
