A Time Series Analyses Of Internally Generated Revenue From Palm-Oil A Case Study Of Umuahia Zone In Abia State For The Period (2000-2005):- Ehilegbu, Chijioke S.
ABSTRACT
In this project work, the revenue data from
palm oil in Umuahia zone (2000 - 2004) was analysed using the method of time
series. Specifically, the method of simple descriptive time series analysis was
employed while the multiplicative model (approach) of separating the component
was adopted. The method and approach helped us to construct a mathematical
model that could be used in predicting future revenue values with a minimum
error. The results of all the test carried out in this work confirmed that the
data are normally distributed, has constant variance and are not completely
random. The time plot of the original data revealed that the revenue figure
between January 2000 and March 2003 appeared to be decreasing, while between
April 2003 and December 2004, the data maintained a stable trend. Subsequent
estimation and isolation of time series components in the revenue data
confirmed that the revenue figure between January 2000 and March 2003 decreases
by about 0.0684 tens of thousands monthly, while between April 2003 and
December 2004, it tends to be constant at about 6.994 tens of thousands. The
month of May had the highest seasonal influence while December had the lowest.
It was also estimated that the joint product of cyclical and irregular
component on assumption tends to unity (C( l( = 1). Finally, the trend and
seasonal components were used in predicting the 2005 revenue values.
Conclusions were drawn based on the results of the study and recommendations
were offered.
