A Statistical Analysis Of Effects Of Temperature And Rainfall On Cassava Yield In Umudike:- Anyanwu Esther U
ABSTRACT
For this
study, data were collected on the cassava yield, temperature and rainfall of
National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike (NRCRI) for the period of 1982 -
1992 and discussed. The ultimate objective of this study is to construct a mathematical
model which could be used to predict reliable and dependable future cassava
yields for specified levels of rainfall and temperature. These data were
analyzed using linear Regression Analysis. The fitted model is Yi =25.7013
+0.3701Xii - 0.0640X2i Which can be used for prediction in subsequent years.
The parameters of the model were found to be non-significant. That is. the
cassava yields did not seem to depend on temperature and rainfall. This result
appears to be at variance with the expected result. And hence it is suggested
that further investigation be carried out to determine the method of collection
and recording of data on cassava yield, temperature and rainfall at National
Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI) or perhaps as a result of the variation
of rainfall or temperature within the years under consideration.
