Ultrasonographic Prostate Measurements As A Diagnostic Aid In Nigerian Indigenous Dog Breed:- Nweke, Victor C

ABSTRACT Prostate anomalies are common in man and dogs. This study evaluated the ultrasonographic measurements ofthe prostate as a diagnostic aid in Nigerian indigenous dog breed. A total of 15 dogs were used for this study. They were allocated into 3 groups of 5 each according to age as follows: Group I (l-2years), Group II (3-4years) and Group III (> 5years). The length, width, depth (thickness) and volume of the prostate were measured ultrasonographically. The result showed that the prostatic length and volume were significantly (P<0.05) higher in group IIL Also, there was a strong positive correlation between the age of the dogs and the length and volume of the prostate. From this study, the ultrasonographic prostatic length and volume seem to be the predictive measurements that could be used for diagnosis of prostate anomalies in Nigerian indigenous dog breed.
