ABSTRACT In the present times, translation courses feature in the academic programmes of department of foreign and National languages in Nigerian Universities. The inclusion of these courses is linked to the modern, national and international necessity in which Nigeria finds herself now. Henceforth, Nigeria finds herself in the cross-road flux of information, of communication of documentation, of transmission of information, of information research and of the use of information of various and multiple types. Translation commentary and criticism are part of the courses in the academic programmes of universities in Nigeria, and which aim at preparing apprentice-translators for a professionai life. It is therefore pertinent to sensitize professionals to the demands of the job, and tramers of translators to the academic activities which are fundamental to the tram,ng of apprentice-translators especially as such activities concern translation commentary andcriticism which are sister out non-identicalactivities.
