The Use Of Demography In Developing the Nigerian Economy

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this research work is to elaborate more on the use of I demography in the economic development of Nigeria. and population statistics, its nature and relationship or relevance towards developing Nigeria. Since its importance cannot be overlooked in the planning of the economy. Using the exponential growth model which describes the real life situation more (Iwueze et al 2009) at a growth rate of 3.04% (2006) population projections according to state, age group and sex were made from 2007 to 2015 using 2006 as the baseline population to ensure precision. It was found that for a successful economic planning for the development of Nigeria, proper attention must be given to the demographic and population statistics so as to ensure reliable and accurate information as any error has the potential of frustrating the economic development of Nigeria.
