ABSTRACT
The prevalence of trypanosomiasis in 40 cattle from animal farm of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia, Abia State was investigated. The cattle were of different breeds. The cattle were bled from their ear lobes at the peak of the rainy season (September — November). Blood samples were examined by wet preparation and stained smear methods (thick and thin films), packed cell volume (PCV). 4 (10%) cattle were infected with trypanosomes with 3 (12.5%) from Ndama breed and 1 (16.6%) from Muturu. Of importance are the Tidings that 3 of the 4 samples positive for trypanosome were Trypanosonia bruccei rhodosiense. It is desirable that cattle be included in any therapeutic or prophylactic a programme for trypanosomiasis control.
