The Physico-Chemical Properties Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike Fish Pond

ABSTRACT

 The physico-chemical parameters of two fish ponds in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike were evaluated. The results of this analysis show temperature range from 28 - 29 °c, electrical conductivity for pond A being 5 .40 - 8.82 and 6.93- 13.40 in pond B, pH values in pond A ranged from 6.40 -8.90 and 7.38- 9 .26 in pond B, dissolved oxygen 307 .2- 980.30 for pond A and 391.50- 921.0 in pond B, values for biological demand in ponds A and B shows100.70- 195.60 and 101.60 - 142.0, total hardness values in both ponds A and B shows 32.20-54.70 and 33.82 -60.90.These value point out the fact that all the parameters are within the pennissible limits prescribed by WHO,FEPA, USPHS and BIS water standards-which indicate that the water quality of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike fish pond is good and can be used for fisheries production and irrigation purposes.
