ABSTRACT

In recent times, the cost of major sources of feed for livestock a continues to increase beyond the reach of the local farmers. 'This development could be traced to be as a result of competition for them by man, industries and animal and thus making the cost of livestock product very high. lo solve this problem there is need to embark upon massive production of these items to meet the current demand or search for alternative or cheaper source golfed. Researches have shown that a large number of feed which have potentials as livestock feed ingredients abound in Nigeria (Ologliogho, 1 992). 'Ihese include fibrous residues from crop, agro industrial byproduct etc, whose potential nutritive values are just becoming known in Nigeria. (Amaefule, and Obicha tI). The shortfall of using these potential feedstuffs is the poor industrial and technological base of the country which results to fragmental supply of these materit I. TI creftre ked producers using these cut egories ot' tied ingredients can hardly maintain standard. Bambara groundnut has been reported to he a good source of plant protein that is used for feeding livestock (Oluyenii et al, 1976 and Olomu, 1995). Its uses have been reported by many workers Cliizoha 1983 and Linnernan, 1 990). It yield has been put to about 1 00,000 tones of the crop annually in the country (ftachie, 1975).
